The Big Spill
In Bhopal about 24 years ago 40 tonnes of toxic chemicals poured into the sky from an insecticide factory. There were up to 8,000 deaths in the immediate aftermath, and it's possible that there was two and a half that in the months following. It's hard to miss and the 11 acres were going to be handed over to cattle, and the site still hasn't been properly cleaned. There is a locked warehouse that contains 340 tonnes of toxic waste that was gathered.
And Now
And now there are young children playing on the same fields; at the same place where there was a chemical spill only 24 years ago. But not only a chemical spill, a chemical spill that killed thousands of innocent people. A spill that still hasn't been properly cleaned, and the children know how deadly it is.
The Reason
You may wonder why all of the children still play there. The first time I heard of this story, I did too. The reason is because they have nowhere else to go. They have no playgrounds, so they're playing on a poisoned field.
